CHOCOHOLICS on Larchmont - Closing

Much beloved neighborhood shop CHOCOHOLICS on Larchmont is slated to close on May 1st after nearly 20 years of continuous operation.  According to owner Steven Johnson, the reason for the closure is "a very, very substantial increase in rent, inconsistent with the neighborhood or competitive properties," which made continued operation at the location unsustainable.

CHOCOHOLICS, known as Leonidas awhile back, has operated continuously on Larchmont for more than 15 years under three different ownerships.  It will be missed.

Pinches Tacos Opening on Larchmont

Excitement ran through Larchmont on January 10th when the small Mexican restaurant chain Pinches Tacos revealed it was on track to open a location in the space of La Bottega Marino by mid-February 2013.

On January 17th, however, Larchmont LA discovered that the City had issued in December 2012 an Order to Comply to the property owner of 203 N. Larchmont demanding that chairs be removed from La Bottega Marino.  After the Pinches Tacos group learned of this complication, their counsel set up a meeting with Councilman Tom LaBonge, who is in charge of explaining land use in the area. By January 23rd, Pinches Tacos realized it would be unable to easily obtain a permit for tables and chairs in the location, and therefore decided to put on hold plans to open on Larchmont.

UPDATE: Pinches Tacos has gone forward and opened in April 2013.

Address: 203 N Larchmont Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90004
Location: north of 1st street, just south of Beverly Boulevard
West side of street, next to Chocoholics

History: La Bottega Marino opened on Larchmont in January 2000.

Its Beverly Hills location was reported in March 2011 as on the verge of closing, though this was vigorously denied by the owner; the BH location did close later that year in December 2011.

The other still-open La Bottega Marino is in West Los Angeles on Santa Monica Boulevard.

UPDATE: La Bottega Marino on Larchmont finally closed in February 2013.
